Getting Started

How do I sign up?

Download Plate of Wellness from the App Store. On first launch, tap “Create Account” and enter your name, email, and a password. You can also continue as a guest to explore the app, but signing up is required to sync your data across devices.

Can I try Plate of Wellness for free?

Yes. The app has a free tier with food logging, manual weight tracking, and Apple Health integration. Premium features (AI Photo Log, Speak to Log, AI Meal Plans, GLP-1 Mode, Ask the RDs, and more) require an active membership at $19.99/month.

How do I set up my goals?

Go to More → Goals & Macros. You can choose from preset goal types (weight loss, maintenance, muscle gain, etc.) or set custom macro targets in grams or percentages. The app uses your goals to color-code progress and customize meal plan recommendations.

Food Logging

How do I log food?

Tap the Diary tab and choose a meal (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or Snacks). Then either: search by name, scan a barcode, use AI Photo Log to snap a photo, use Speak to Log to dictate what you ate, or pick from your recently logged foods. You can also build custom recipes in the Recipe Builder under More.

How accurate is the food database?

We use three verified sources: the FatSecret Platform API (6.5M+ professionally curated foods), USDA FoodData Central (1M+ government-verified entries), and Open Food Facts (3M+ barcoded products with community moderation). Unlike apps that rely on crowd-sourced data, our database is professionally verified.

I can’t find a food. What do I do?

You can create a custom food entry from the search screen. Tap “Create Custom Food,” enter the nutrition info from the label, and save it. The entry will be available for future logging and can be reused in recipes.

Why is the barcode scanner not finding my product?

Some specialty, regional, or new products may not be in the database yet. If the scan fails, you can search by name, create a custom food, or try Open Food Facts directly at openfoodfacts.org and report back to us so we can investigate.

AI Features

How does AI Photo Log work?

Tap the camera icon in the Diary tab or on the home screen, snap a photo of your meal, and the AI will identify what’s on the plate and estimate the nutrition. You can edit the result before saving. AI Photo Log is a premium feature with a daily quota of 20 uses (shared with all AI features).

How does Speak to Log work?

Tap the microphone icon and describe what you ate naturally, like “two scrambled eggs with a slice of avocado toast and black coffee.” The AI parses your description and creates the entries for you to confirm.

What if I run out of AI uses?

You can purchase a coin pack from the More → Subscription screen to extend your daily AI usage. Coin packs are non-renewing one-time purchases. Your daily quota resets at midnight in your local timezone.

Are AI photo and voice recordings saved?

No. AI features process your photo or audio in real time to produce a result, and the original media is not permanently stored on our servers. The AI processing provider (Anthropic) also does not retain content for training. See our Privacy Policy for details.

GLP-1 Mode

What is GLP-1 Mode?

GLP-1 Mode is a dedicated set of features for users on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound. It includes dose tracking, side-effect logging, adjusted protein and hydration targets, and our patent-pending Smart Alert system that highlights potential nutrition issues common on these medications.

How do I enable GLP-1 Mode?

Go to More → Settings → GLP-1 Mode. Select your medication, dose, and start date. The app will adjust your targets and unlock the GLP-1 tracking interface in the Diary tab.

What are Smart Alerts?

Smart Alerts are patent-pending notifications that flag specific patterns: not meeting protein targets, low hydration, missed doses, and side-effect symptoms that may need attention. They are educational tools, not medical advice. Always consult your prescribing physician for medical decisions.

Is Plate of Wellness a medical device?

No. Plate of Wellness is a wellness and nutrition tracking tool. It is not a medical device, not FDA-regulated, and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Always work with your healthcare provider for medical decisions, especially when taking prescription medications.

Ask the RDs

What is “Ask the RDs”?

Ask the RDs is an in-app messaging feature where you can submit questions to our team of Registered Dietitians (RDs). We respond with general nutrition education within 24–48 hours. This is not personalized medical nutrition therapy and does not replace working with your own RD or physician.

How do I submit a question?

Open the More tab and tap “Ask the RDs.” Type your question and submit. You’ll get a notification when an RD has responded. Your conversation history is saved so you can refer back to past answers.

Can you give me personalized medical advice?

No. Our Ask the RDs feature provides general nutrition education only. For personalized medical nutrition therapy (especially for diabetes, kidney disease, or other clinical conditions), please work with a Registered Dietitian or physician who can evaluate your full medical history.

Apple Health & CGM Integration

How do I connect Apple Health?

On first launch, the app will request access to Apple Health. You can choose which data types to share (steps, weight, heart rate, sleep, blood glucose, etc.). To change permissions later, go to iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Plate of Wellness, or use the in-app shortcut at More → Settings → Apple Health.

Does Plate of Wellness work with my CGM?

Yes, if your CGM syncs data to Apple Health. We support readings from Dexcom, FreeStyle Libre, and any other CGM that writes to the HealthKit Blood Glucose data type. Note that CGM data is read on demand and may be delayed depending on your CGM provider’s sync interval.

Why is my Apple Health data not showing?

Most often this is a permission issue. Check iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Plate of Wellness and make sure each data type you want is set to “Allow.” If the issue persists, try closing the app fully (swipe up) and reopening it.

Is my Apple Health data uploaded to your servers?

No. Apple Health data is read on demand and used to display your trends and dashboards. It is never uploaded to our servers, never used for advertising, and never shared with third parties.

Data & Cross-Device Sync

Can I use Plate of Wellness offline?

Yes. The app works fully offline for food logging, viewing your history, and using most features. You’ll need an internet connection for AI features (Photo Log, Speak to Log, AI Meal Plans), Ask the RDs, and to sync your data. When you reconnect to the internet, the app automatically syncs your changes to our encrypted cloud backup, so you can pick up on a new phone without losing anything.

What happens if I lose my phone or switch devices?

Your food log, body measurements, progress photos, custom recipes, and other entries are encrypted and synced to our cloud backup automatically. When you sign in to Plate of Wellness on a new device, your data restores automatically. No manual export needed. Apple Health data (steps, heart rate, glucose, sleep) is restored separately by Apple through your iCloud Backup on the new device.

How often does my data sync?

The app syncs your data approximately once per hour while you’re actively using it, and immediately when you close or background the app. Most changes are backed up within seconds of closing the app. You don’t need to do anything to enable sync — it runs automatically once you’re signed in.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to More → Settings → Export Data. You can download a readable copy of your food log, body data, and other entries. This is useful if you want to share data with your dietitian or save a personal backup.

Subscription & Payment

How much does Plate of Wellness cost?

$19.99 per month for Premium, which unlocks all AI features, GLP-1 Mode, Ask the RDs, Form Check, Meal Plan Generator, Workout Generator, and more. The free tier has limited features. Payments are processed through Apple’s App Store.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the Settings app on your iPhone → tap your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → Plate of Wellness → Cancel. You can also use the in-app shortcut at More → Subscription → Manage Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Will I get a refund?

Subscription refunds are handled by Apple, not directly by us. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Plate of Wellness purchase, and submit a refund request. Apple decides whether to grant a refund based on their refund policy.

I’m having trouble restoring my purchase. What do I do?

Tap More → Subscription → Restore Purchases. This re-syncs your entitlement with Apple. If it still doesn’t work, make sure you’re signed in to the Apple ID that originally made the purchase. If the issue persists, contact us at info@plateofwellness.com with your purchase receipt.

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe?

Yes. All data synced to our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS and encrypted at rest using AES-256. Each user can only access their own data through an authenticated session token. We do not sell your data, do not show ads, and do not share your information with third parties for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I delete my account?

Go to More → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account information, food log, photos, measurements, dietitian Q&A, and all other personal data from both your device and our servers. The deletion is irreversible and takes effect immediately.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Marketing emails include an “unsubscribe” link at the bottom that opts you out instantly. You’ll continue to receive transactional emails (password resets, receipts, important account notices) because those are required to operate your account. To opt out of all email entirely, contact us at info@plateofwellness.com.

Troubleshooting

The app is slow or crashing. What can I try?

First, fully close the app (swipe up from the bottom and flick Plate of Wellness off the screen) and reopen it. If the issue continues, restart your iPhone. If you still have problems, make sure your iOS is up to date and that you have at least 500 MB of free storage on your device. Lastly, try uninstalling and reinstalling — your data is safe in the cloud and will restore when you sign back in.

I logged something incorrectly. How do I edit or delete it?

Tap the entry in your Diary, then either edit the portion / nutrition or tap the delete icon. Deletions sync to the cloud immediately and will not reappear on other devices.

I found a wrong nutrition entry. How do I report it?

Email us at info@plateofwellness.com with the food name, brand, and what you believe the correct nutrition info should be (ideally with a label photo). We’ll investigate and update our source databases if needed.

Face ID / Touch ID isn’t working for sign-in.

Go to More → Settings → Sign-In Options to toggle biometric login on or off. If biometric login fails repeatedly, you can always sign in with your email and password. Biometric credentials are stored in your device’s Secure Enclave and are never sent to our servers.
